The Instruction & Research Services Internship (IRSI) is offered as a hybrid (majority online) opportunity that provides current MLS/MLIS students with hands-on experience in academic librarianship. The majority of the work will be completed virtually, but there will be several required site visits throughout the semester. The internship will focus on Instruction and Research as well as non-traditional library roles in Archival and Makerspace work. Interns will have weekly discussions with library workers from all areas of the college library covering a variety of current academic library topics and trends. Interns will be trained to staff online chat, as well as to construct research guides, tutorials, infographics, and lesson plans addressing a variety of classroom library instruction topics.
One intern will be appointed per semester. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate that they are motivated, able to work independently, confident with technology, and possess excellent time management skills. Participation in IRSI is free. There are no textbook requirements for this experience. There is no monetary compensation for interns at Central Piedmont.
