LGBT History Month: LGBT History Month

The first LGBT History Month was celebrated in relatively recent history. In the United States, Canada, Armenia, Romania, the Netherlands, Southeast Asia, and Australia, it is celebrated in October to coincide with National Coming Out Day on October 11th and to commemorate the first and second marches on Washington in 1979 and 1987 for LGBT rights. In the United States, the month was founded by Missouri high school teacher Rodney Wilson, the first openly gay school teacher in Missouri.

LGBT History Month honors influential LGBTQIA+ people, modern and past. From Ancient Greece to Stonewall to modern day, this guide collects resources that reflect the diverse contributions of LGBTQIA+ people throughout history. The LGBT History Month Website specifically honors a different LGBTQIA+ figure from history every day.
