MLA 8th edition citation guidelines

This guide provides general guidelines for creating MLA 8th edition citations for a Works Cited page and includes the format for in-text citations.

This table shows Core Elements you may include for any citation. Different types of sources have different Core Elements.   Use the information available for your particular source to create a citation. 

General format for any citation:

Author. Title. Title of container. Other contributors (translators or editors), Version (edition), Number (vol. and/or no.), Publisher, Publication Date, Location (pages, paragraphs, URL or DOI). 2nd container’s title (if applicable), Other contributors, Version, Number, Publisher, Publication date, Location, Date of Access (if applicable).
